Lift of Love

The ski lift company at Austria’s St. Johann in Tirol ski resort is offering ‘speed dating’ to singles on its not very fast Jodelalmlift chairlift on selected dates in January and February.

The vintage double chairlift, installed 44 years ago, takes 12 minutes to ascend just over 500 vertical metres, travelling at about half-the-speed of a high-speed quad, so there’s plenty of time to get to know your fellow traveller.

The first (slow) speed dating chairlift ride is this Friday, 10th January and the event will run again over the following five Fridays, concluding on St Valentine’s Day.

The idea is that during your time on the lift, you will have the opportunity to make new friends, chat a little and find out whether you would like to tackle the next descent together or get to know each other better, perhaps fuelling up together in a cosy mountain hut.

To take part just ask at the Eichenhof or Harschbichl valley lift stations after 10am on the day and you’ll be given a sticker to show you’re participating, a small goodie bag and an icebreaker card with a suggested first question to get the conversation started

“Get to know new people, make new friends and maybe even find the love of your life – that’s what ‘Lift & Love’ is all about,” a spokesperson for St. Johann’s lift company said, adding “We are looking forward to many participants and wish you unforgettable encounters!”
