The Espace Killy is one of the world’s great ski regions. Linking the ski area of Tignes-Val d’Isère, it is one of the planet’s biggest with 10,000 hectares of skiable terrain and more than 150 marked ski runs altogether making up 300km of slopes, served by 78 fast, modern lifts.
It’s one of the most snow-sure regions in the world too, with skiing from late November to early May, and runs right up to 3,456m, where there’s permanent glacier cover. Even the base of the runs, nearly 1,900 vertical metres below, are much higher than many ski areas at 1,550m.
Val d’Isère and Tignes are both world-class resorts in their own right, of course. Val d’Isère is a vibrant, classic resort and one of just a handful worldwide that have hosted World Cup (as it does every year) as well as World Championship and Olympic Alpine skiing events. This season it unveils its new Solaise gondola with heated seats and wi-fi as the heart of a major upgrade it’s calling the biggest in a decade. Tignes is the most snow-sure resort in France, open in 11 months out of 12 for snowsports all year. It has a young, sporty and trendy ambience and is the place to go for big, fun events all season.
