Chamonix is, of course, a world-famous resort that is popular with alpine enthusiasts the whole year round. But alongside its world-class ski facilities, it hosts a number of major events each ski season which help cement that reputation of being the best of the best for skiers.
The Freeride World Tour wouldn’t be the global pinnacle of freeride competition if it did not include Chamonix, of course, and it rolls into town on 6 February.
Next up is the historic Kandahar World Cup which returns to the Chamonix Valley a fortnight later on 19 and 20 February. The world’s fastest men on skis will be back on the slopes above Les Houches for the first time in four years. Great skiers Bode Miller and Didier Cuche made the podium last time in 2012. This year, Chamonix’s own Guillermo Fayed is high in the rankings.
By springtime, things get a little more relaxed, and the annual Adventure Film Festival is staged from 26 to 27 March, showcasing the best in adventure filming from around the world.
Then it’s time to chill out still further as the season winds down after Easter with the Unlimited Festival from 7 to 11 April. It offers the best electronic music acts on breathtaking stages all over the Mont-Blanc range.
