One of the most popular ski resorts in Europe, Méribel is a beautiful Alpine town with tree-lined slopes and access to one of the world’s biggest ski areas. Indeed, there’s no surprise that skiers and snowboarders flock here year upon year. However, this winter, there’s even more to be excited about in Méribel, with a brand new luxury 5* development, L’Hevana open for business.

The new L’Hevana residence is set right in the centre of Méribel, an ideal location with easy access to both the ski slopes and the town centre. It’s a beautiful traditional complex with an even more impressive interior and fantastic facilities, which we delve into in our sneak peek below. What’s more, with companies such as Pierre & Vacances offering an incredible 20% off early bookings, now is the perfect time to book your own stay in this new Méribel hot spot. Affordable Alpine luxury with one of the greatest ski areas in the world on your doorstep? What are you waiting for?!

The Residence

L’Hevana looks to provides guests with their very own home-from-home, a slice of traditional mountain warmth combined with modern design and state-of-the-art features.

A luxury deep nature spa and gorgeous indoor heated pool awaits you after a long day on the slopes, the perfect place to relax those aching muscles. You can take in the spectacular mountain views from the outdoor hot tub and even rejuvinate your body in the hammam (steam room) or sauna.

You don’t even have to leave the building to make the most of your evening, thanks to the elegant in-house restaurant and bar. Is there anything better when the snow is coming down outside, than to relax with a mulled wine by the wood fire, or tuck into to a delicious hearty meal, all without having to leave the comforts of your residence?!

There’s even a tea room and a large terrace – perfect for those sunny end-of-season days.

For those who do want to head into the town, a pedestrian footbridge takes guests from the residence directly to Méribel town centre, where a range of fantastic restaurants and bars greet those looking to head out for the evening.

The Rooms

There are 95 apartments within the complex, spread over five hamlets. From one to three bedrooms, these apartments can sleep up to 8 guests, and some even come with an in-room sauna! Across the residence, the rooms are a stunning blend of traditional and modern, featuring wood, stone and slate decor with warm, homely furnishings, huge bay windows and a chalet feel. If this sneak peek is anything to go by, you’d be forgiven for never wanting to leave!

For families, self-catering is a great option when it comes to skiing. It offers increased flexibility when compared to hotel or chalet accommodations, which is ideal for those that don’t want to be tied down to meal times or menus. A fully functional kitchen means that you can work around your families’ own preferences and dietary requirements, always with the option to eat out or in the in-house restaurant if you feel like it!

This flexibility is not only a benefit for families though. For adults or groups, self-catering also offers you the opportunity to experience Méribel’s legendary après-ski without worrying about making it back for your designated dinner time! It gives you more leeway to explore and enjoy the resort on your own terms, the chance to sample the delicious local Savoyarde cuisine as well as the option to cook for yourselves.

The Skiing

Around 2 hours from Grenoble and Geneva airports, and just 1hr 15 from Chambery, Méribel is extremely accessible and offers some of the best skiing in the world. The 3 Vallèes is one of the world’s largest and most popular ski areas, claiming a staggering 600km of runs for skiers to enjoy. Méribel benefits from a prime position right in the heart of this area, allowing easy access to the famous neighbouring resorts of Courchevel and Val Thorens.

321 pistes and a wealth of off piste opportunity awaits skiers here, from gentle beginner areas to challenging black runs. In fact, the number of green/blue and red/black runs is fairly equal, which is ideal for groups of mixed abilities.

Indeed, this is one of our favourite destinations for beginners. The ‘Easy Rider’ initiative brought in a few years ago clearly signposts gentle slopes aimed at beginner skiers, which are shown in pink on the piste map and marked with obvious pink piste signs. This means that beginners can feel confident in knowing which way to go, knowing that a piste is possible for them without having to worry about ending up on a black run by accident!

The 3 Vallees is one of the most reliable ski areas in the world when it comes to snow quality, thanks to the abundance of high altitude resorts and runs, with a maximum altitude of 3,230 metres.  Indeed, 85% of the runs are situated above 1,800 metres, whilst the minimum skiable altitude is still an impressive 1,300 metres. This means that you are almost guaranteed decent snow cover in an area that is highly committed to offering the best skiing conditions possible. Even if the snow has not fallen for a while, the area boasts 2383 snow canons covering more than 50% of the ski area, so you can rest easy!

In the Méribel area itself, the Elements terrain park and ever popular fun slope are must-visit spots for those looking for a little extra adrenaline or younger skiers wanting to try their hand at a few small jumps in a safe and secure environment.

Top Tip: Don’t miss Méribel’s luge track, a truly unique and enthralling tobogganing experience where riders are taken on a magical journey to save the forest from the goblin enemy! Definitely sure to be a hit with any kids, the track was so popular last season that it was open to guests 7 days a week.
