While most ski areas are making a point of increasing technology to give skiers more fingertip access to facilities and services at their resorts, the French ski region of Les Sybelles is trying a different approach and putting the onus there on human interaction.
This season they have enlisted a small army of “Helpers” across the resort who are there to “… offer the best-quality welcome to holidaymakers,” a Les Sybelles spokesperson said.
Made up of local shopkeepers, residents and home owners, each will wear a badge to indicate their helper status and is there for visitors to offer information, guidance, advice and help when needed.
“By increasing human contact, so dear to Les Sybelles’ visitors, the quality of our welcome is improved and made still more personal,” said the spokesperson.
Another new initiative this winter is the erection of totems at the starting points of the ski slopes across the resort. The idea is that any lone skier who would like to ski with someone else can meet up and share the pleasure of a day on the slopes or enjoy a group descent.
