Izzy Atkin is a freestyle skier who has made her mark on the skiing scene in the last few years and is one of Team GB’s top medal hopes for PyeongChang.

Izzy was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, where she began skiing with her family at just 3 years old. Her talent for freestyle/free skiing was evident from a young age, and she began competing at the age of 9 in all freestyle (moguls and aerials) and free skiing (slopestyle, half pipe and big air) events.

Izzy is now based in Park City, Utah, though she visits family in Great Britain often and competes under the GB flag. She is one of Team GB’s most consistent freestyle skiers, placing outside of the top ten only twice in the last three years (28 competitions). Indeed, in the last few years, she has become much more comfortable on the international competition circuit, hitting her peak at just the right time for PyeongChang 2018.

In 2017, she became the first British woman to take gold in a ski slopestyle World Cup competition, an achievement she swiftly followed up with a bronze in slopestyle at the World Championships in Sierra Nevada. So far this year, she has already placed third in the World Cup in Aspen Snowmass, as well as taking a silver in the X Games at the end of January. It’s the perfect time for the Team GB skier to be hitting her stride and it’s easy to see why she’s one of our top contenders for a medal in PyeongChang.
