Ahead of the Laax Open last week, we caught up with British snowboarder and current Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup Champion Katie Ormerod to talk Olympic qualifying, Covid safety in snowboard events and whether she ever feels fear.
Katie was previously out of the sport for 18 months after she sustained a broken heel on the eve of the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, where she was tipped as one of GB’s top medal hopes. As a result it is clear to see that she is more passionate than ever about making it to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and showing the whole world what she can do. In a year where winter sports events are taking place in a way very different to usual, it’s a testament to Katie’s dedication that she is taking all of this in her stride.
We also discuss Red Bull’s latest video Flying High, in which Katie discusses the sensation of freedom and weightlessness that comes with jumping at such heights. It’s an insight into what goes on in the minds of these athletes during just a few key seconds of a jump.
