A number of ski resorts in the French Alps offer the chance to try ice driving on small circuits, but if you’d like to really try ice driving on a grand scale, Sweden offers huge frozen lakes on which to really get some speed up.
“Ice driving is certainly not for the faint-hearted – driving flat out on a frozen lake in the middle of Sweden really tests your driving skills – but it’s by far the most fun you can have on four wheels!” enthuses Thomas Brimblecombe, Managing Director of Classic Grand Touring, which is offering three trips to try ice driving near the ski resort of Salen this winter.
All guests have two full days of ice driving on the lake including rally car sessions in either a Subaru or Mitsubishi. Initial tuition is with a professional driving coach in three different cars – a front-wheel drive (FWD), a rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a four-wheel drive (4WD) – in order to gain the best experience possible.
These three-night trips cost from £1,350pp (two sharing), including B&B accommodation at the Kjølen Hotel, two full days’ driving on the lake including rally car sessions and professional tuition on the lake, use of ice go-karts, airport and lake transfers, two lunches and three dinners, plus return flights to Oslo International (London Gatwick). The three trips are from 7 to 10 February, 10 to 13 February and 13 to 16 February. classicgt.co.uk
