A growing number of ski areas across The Alps have now posted over a metre of snowfall since a series of storms began at the end of last week.
Ski areas in Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland have reported up to four feet (2.2 metres) of snowfall since last Thursday.
These are by far the biggest falls of the year so far and bolstered bases as the sporing skiing season begins this weekend.
Alpe d’Huez has seen an 80cm base in its snow depth this week and now has the deepest snow at 4.8 metres (16 feet) up top.
Italy Madonna di Campiglio’s base is up 90cm, for St Moritz in Switzerland its over a metre.
All the fresh snowfall means that freeride skiers and boarders finally have plenty of off piste powder to enjoy, however the avalanche danger has increased for “low” to “considerable” (level 3) on the danger scale.
