Ski areas in Western North America are reporting heavy snowfall turning slopes white. There have been several early autumn snowfalls in the region already, but this one is the heaviest yet, with up to six inches (15cm) of snowfall so far, the heaviest in Oregon and Washington state in the US Northwest so far.
However snowfall has been reported over a wide area with resorts like The Palisades in California (below) saying it was their first significant snowfall of the autumn/fall.
There’s anticipation in Colorado where several ski areas began snowmaking at the start of this month, hoping to be first to open for the season in North America at some point in October. Fresh snowfall has been reported here too but the most optimistic forecasts suggest up to two feet (60cm) of snow could fall by the weekend, seeming ti make it likely somewhere will be able to open if it arrives as forecast.
