Although January 2018 is looking like it will be one of the snowiest on record in the Alps, and more snow is on the way before the month ends next week, conditions on the slopes are currently superb under the sunshine in most resorts now that the heavy snowfall has finished.
Ski areas that had had to close their slopes due to the extreme avalanche danger are now making areas safe and re-opening groomed runs and resorts that were cut of by road or rail again due to avalanche danger including Andermatt, St Anton and Zermatt are now accessible again.
Most resorts today have enjoyed superb conditions today under blue skies, most saw the sun again yesterday (Tuesday 23rd January) for the first time since last week.

There is still a high avalanche danger in many areas, particularly of piste, and strong winds at high altitude have been reported as an issue at some resorts, particularly in Austria.
Snowfall is also forecast to return later tomorrow and through the weekend although currently forecasters do not expect such heavy snowfall or stormy conditions as there has been over the past 2-3 weeks.
