British skiers have taken gold, silver and bronze medals in the Beijing Paralympics over the opening weekend.
Nineteen-year-old Neil Simpson, guided by his brother Andrew (pictured above and below), has won Great Britain’s first ever male gold medal on snow, at an Olympic or Paralympic Games, competing in the men’s Super-G vision impaired skiing. The pair clocked a time of 1:08.91 to finish nearly half a second clear of the rest of the field.
Earlier Menna Fitzpatrick and her guide Gary Smith (pictured top) won silver in the women’s Super-G vision impaired ski race. It’s Fitzpatrick’s fifth Paralympic medal of her career, making her Great Britain’s most successful ever Winter Paralympian.
The medals on Sunday followed on from Millie Knight and guide Brett Wild taking the British team’s first medal of the games, a bronze in the Downhill VI on Saturday (pictured above and below).
