Gstaad created a fondue pot you could sit in up on the slopes last year, and the idea has proved so popular a second pot has just been installed at another location.
Never fear this fondue pot does not get especially hot, but the idea is you can sit in it, sheltered from the elements, take in the beautiful view and …eat a fondue. Each provides enough room for up to eight people.
The new “number two pot” was flown by helicopter to its location on Mt. Wispile (a 40 minute hike from the Wispile top lift station), providing the second option after the first pot in Schlittmoos above Schönried (a 15 minute walk or ski from the village centre).
To use the mountain top fondues you need to book the fondue backpack from one of four dairies in the area, or your hotel will organise it for you. The backpack includes all the ingredients needed including cooking equipment, either a traditional thick fondue (18 Francs per person) or a particularly flavoursome truffle fondue made by the Schönried Dairy (21 francs per person), as well as crusty fondue bread supplied by the Wehren Bakery, spices, fondue pot, warmer, plates and forks.
After enjoying the fondue, collect your rubbish and return the backpack to the place you got it from, then simply remember your experience with nostalgic delight for the rest of your life.
