This is our InTheSnow Volkl RTM 81 2019 Ski Review from the slopes of Galtür, Austria. The Volkl RTM range has proved very popular over recent seasons and when testing the RTM 81 2019, it is clear to see why.

On piste, this ski carves beautifully with good edge hold in longer turns and impressive control in short radius turns. It’s really designed to perform on the hard pack and this it does, filling you with confidence on every turn. An early rise tip and tail rocker makes turn initiation so easy that you feel confident and comfortable, even on steeper, trickier terrain.

For a skier that stays mostly on the piste, it’s more than versatile enough, allowing you to fully enjoy the side piste, happily tackling powder or crud off the edges of the slopes. However, if you are looking for something that’s more versatile in terms of heading fully off piste, perhaps consider the RTM 81’s older, wider and slightly more powerful brothers – the 84 0r the 86.

With an 81mm waist width, the Volkl RTM 81 2019 is one of the more accessible skis in the RTM range – forgiving, responsive and easy to handle. This makes it a great choice for someone who may be looking for that next step up to really progress their skiing and venture off the piste a bit.

If you’re looking for a really powerful, hard charging ski, you should definitely consider the RTM 84 or 86 which come with UVO technology. However, if you want a high performance but is still accessible and a bit kinder on your bank balance, the Volkl RTM 81 2019 is a very good choice.
