I’m not a major fan of helmets because I have to wear 1 hearing aid; that means I either wear a helmet and then can’t hear my mates or family talking to me at all, because my other ear just amplifies the wind and surrounding noises, or I don’t wear a helmet and feel exposed and dangerous!
I recently visited Slide – a UK ski trade show and came across the Igniter MIPS helmet by Sweet Protection. It looked cool, was really comfortable (for the few minutes I had it on my head) and came with the usual quality safety record that Sweet Protection helmets are known for.
Luck struck that I ended up getting one of these helmets to try and I have to say it’s a real result. Gone with the dull and boring black and grey helmets, this helmet is cooler than I am in a mid matte green with yellow writing. Its really comfortable with plenty of air circulating so I don’t get that really itchy sweaty head feeling.
It doesn’t help with my hearing aid problem, but to be fair, I don’t think any helmet can, and at £189 it’s not the cheapest, but protection wise its very hard to beat and it’s very comfortable, it feels safe, it’s a great fit and I kind of feel special or in some way superior or exclusive wearing a Sweet Protection Helmet over and above some other brands, so next time you’re in your local ski store, check out the Ignitor, I’m a big fan, and I’m not paid to say that!
