Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR Baro

Remember when a watch was just a watch and a phone was just a phone?

Well now telling-the-time is pretty low down on the priority list of many wrist-carried devices and some of them do as much and more as your smart phone – but without the problem of battery life, fumbling to get them out of your pocket and the risk of dropping them in the snow (from  the chairlift).

Note that the Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR Baro doesn’t have ‘watch’ in its title and its all the handy ski features you’re likely to buy it for rather than just to tell the time (although it does still do that).

Features include an inbuilt air pressure sensor which provides precise altitude readings and storm warnings.

It also counts your ski runs, tells you how long they were, how much vertical you skied and how fast you were going.

Its inbuilt GPS provides route navigation with estimated time of arrive (ETA) and remaining distance to destination as well as highlighting points of interest en route with navigation with alarms.

To help with your health there’s wrist heart rate monitoring and a calories burnt measure.

You can’t yet phone people with it or take pictures but that’s surely just a matter of time…
