InTheSnow took a pair of Silhouette sunglasses back to Austria (where they’re created) to test them out with some October skiing in the sunshine on the glacier 3,000m up above Solden.
The company’s sales pitch was that Silhouette sunglasses provide the perfect balance of style and substance with each pair offering the most advanced anti-glare polarised protection on the market as well as comprehensive UV and blue light protection.
We’re pleased to confirm that we found that to be the case with perfectly clear vision as we moved from bright sunlight in to shade crossing the slopes
The glare of bright sunlight is magnified when reflected from the snow. We’ve found in the past that surface glare will cut-through inferior glasses, dazzling the eye and obscuring vision but Silhouette’s sunglasses benefit from layers of anti-glare polarisation designed to filter surface glare for perfect, clear vision.
For those with a techie mind, it may be interesting to know that in addition to the polarized technology, Silhouette glasses correspond to European protection factor 32. IQ Pol provides 100% protection against UV A, B and C rays up to 400 nanometers as well as a high degree of blue light protection. We found that means that, in short, they’re very good.
They’re also very light, and it took a little while to get used to the fact they’re so very light and comfortable compared with most shades that can be used for snowsports. But the lighter every but of your gear can be, the better it is for your skiing or boarding.
Overall 10 out of 10 for Silhouette. Silhouette sunglasses cost from £200.
