SALOMON – XDR 80TI SKI

This is the SALOMON – XDR 80TI ski review from InTheSnow – This is a brand new ski from salomon for the 2017-18 winter season and is ideal for intermediate to advanced resort skiers who want a combination of great control on piste 90% of the time, but skip off into the softer snow when the chance arises and still maintain performance.

Having the Carbon and Flax layer built in  gives a lively and responsive feel as well as great dampening. The full wood core and the with a single Ti layer gives this ski solid contact with the snow and great edge grip, plus incredible dampening resulting in efficient energy transfer.

The All-Mountain C/FX shape gives this ski exceptional performance on hard snow and great edge grip as well as the slightly wider tip and decent rocker profile resulting in intuitive turn initiation as well as float in softer snow off the side of the piste.

It also has a 3 point tip which is inspired by backcountry skis that also helps towards float and dampening in softer snow conditions.

SALOMON – XDR 80TI SKI REVIEW

Choosing The Right Ski Length

In years gone by this was a simple equation, somewhere between your nose and chin and you’re done. But now the size of the ski perfect for you is driven by a whole load of factors like weight, ability, intended use and plenty more – we would recommend you go into a specialist retailer like http://www.skibartlett.com/ to make sure you get the best possible advice or check out our video https://www.inthesnow.com/choose-right-length-skis/. Below will give you a rough guide:

The Right Length Ski for on Piste Skiing

Aim for a ski thats between you chin and your eye level, for easy carving and responsive steering and look to choose a longer ski for stability and big wide turns.

The Right Length Ski for All Mountain Skiing

Generally here you will find skis have a bit of rocker, so aim for slightly longer, more nose to forehead.  If you aren’t sure what rocker is, maybe take a look at our video https://www.inthesnow.com/rocker-skis-explained/

The Right Length Ski for Freeride Skiing

Now things start to go a bit crazy so here you can aim for forehead to over head height as far as you comfortably ski on giving you max float!
The Right Length Ski for Freestyle Backcountry Skiing

Here the sky (or ski) if the limit. The bigger the ski, the better the float in that deep powder.

The Right Length Ski for Freestyle Skiing

For those freestylers among you, approximately eye level skis will give maximum flexibility and ease of turning fast.

The Right Length Ski for Skiing in The Park

Same goes here really unless you want something a bit bigger to give great stability for landing and jumping.
