Garmin®, the global leader in satellite navigation*, is pleased to announce two new skiing GPS navigators. The DakotaTM 20 and OregonTM 450 ski editions come with Mountain Dynamics SnowRanger ski resort maps for Europe or North America. Not only do they help you find your way around easily, they tell you how far, how fast and how high you go.
If you’ve ever stood at the top of a slope and wondered what combination of runs and lifts would take you back to your chalet or exactly how to find your friends on the other side of the mountain, the Dakota or Oregon ski editions can help. SnowRanger maps give you turn-by-turn directions telling you which lifts and slopes to take to get to your destination. Ticket offices, parking, snow parks, restaurants and ski schools are all marked on the map.
“My Garmin tells me everything from max speed to vertical metres skied and is a great way of recording my whole day’s skiing” says Olympic skier, Graham Bell. “With ski resort maps I can plan my day on an unfamiliar mountain and I know I will never get lost even in white-out conditions.”
The SnowRanger ski resort maps contain more than 420 resorts for Europe. The mapping for North America also includes top Canadian resorts such as Whistler Blackcomb, Lake Louise, Tremblant and more.
The Garmin Dakota 20 and Oregon 450 have tough sunlight-readable displays so you can see them in the glare of the snow. They’re durable and waterproof – so you don’t have to worry when you’re burning down the slopes. Both have a built-in 3-axis electronic compass, which shows where you’re heading even when you’re standing still, without holding them level. And a barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude. When you’ve finished on the slopes you can review, relive and replay your runs on the Garmin Snow Club www.garminsnowclub.co.uk
Garmin Test Centres
The Oregon 450 will be available to trial at the official Garmin Test Centres® – ten specialist ski chalets located throughout the Alps, where guests have the opportunity to test the devices complete with Mountain Dynamics SnowRanger ski resort maps.
Test Centre guests can then upload their data from their slopetime activity (known as ‘tracklogs’) and enter into a League Table on the Garmin Snow Club website – this allows them to compete with other guests (across all test centres). At the end of the season, Garmin will reward the winners with a free week’s chalet holiday at the given Test Centres. The three categories that will be rewarded are: Top speed, Total distance & Total Vertical Descent, plus an extra prize draw for less extreme users.
Last season, over 5,000 chalet guests logged a cumulative 10,000 Alpine miles, with the winner being keen skier, Jonathan Brothers, who was crowned the ultimate Snow Club King of the Slopes after clocking an impressive 75.1 mph in Morzine!
And if guests are in need of any inspiration to wax up their skis and boards this season, then Garmin ambassadors Ed Leigh and Graham Bell should give them motivation. The Ski Sunday and Winter Olympic Presenters will be blogging about their high altitude exploits on the Garmin Snow Club website www.garminsnowclub.co.uk
