World-renowned groin injury specialist, Mr Jerry Gilmore, who has treated professional sportsmen from around the world, including hundreds of Premiership and England international football players and other sportsmen, has, for the first time, created a pair of compression shorts in partnership with physioroom.com and the Harley Street Sports Enterprise (Gilmoresupportshorts.com). The shorts are specifically and scientifically designed to help prevent and manage one of the most common sporting injuries.
Named after the man himself, ‘Gilmore’s Groin’ is an injury that affects predominantly young male athletes. It is seen most often in footballers, but is also common in ice hockey players, skiers and snowboarders.
The patent protected ‘Gilmore Support Shorts’ have been designed to help manage and aid prevention of groin, adductor, lower back and hamstring injuries. These muscle groups and the surrounding tissue can often suffer from wear and tear as a result of running, twisting, turning and kicking.
Using multiple layers of Floprene, a material which has specific stretchable properties, the design provides intimate yet substantial support and enhanced stability.
Additional features include waist and thigh straps for controlled compression, an optional genital pouch and a lower back (lumbosacral) support, with an adjustable pocket where an ice or heat pack can be inserted.
“The groin and surrounding areas are vulnerable to injury from overstretching, running, twisting and excessive kicking. It is overwhelmingly an injury seen in males who play sport,” said Mr Gilmore, “The shorts have been designed to help minimise the disruption caused in the groin and surrounding area by recurrent micro trauma and overuse. The shorts aid core stability and maintain warmth, providing comfort and control to the areas where most injuries of this type occur.”
“The shorts provide a real breakthrough in terms of prevention and the management of this type of injury. It will enable players to continue playing where previously they may have not been able to, and will aid recovery and rehabilitation in instances where surgery or other treatments have been required,” he added.
The Gilmore Support Shorts are endorsed by a number of professional athletes as well as leading sports physiotherapists, physicians and surgeons.
There are two different types of shorts, the support shorts (£99.00) and the training shorts (£29.00). The training shorts are a lighter weight version, making them more suitable for warm ups and post work out recovery.
Both shorts are available to buy exclusively at PhysioRoom.com and Gilmoresupportshorts.com.
