Getting the best base layer is always a bit of a conundrum.
Do you go cheap with synthetic fabrics and just get sweaty but don’t get too cold, so long as you don’t allow yourself to cool down outdoors anyway; or do you really push the boat out on some top end thermals tested by NASA astronauts and perhaps bio-engineered from llama wool, or something equally impressive sounding?
The sensible (and usually most successful) approach is usually to go somewhere down the middle and buy a base layer made from tried and tested natural ingredients that you’ll feel really good wearing and won’t be something where you think neither, “Urgh, I’m not putting those cheap nasty things next to my skin again!” after one use, nor, “Well these are OK, but they’re nothing special to be honest, why did I fall for the hype and spend so much?”
Step forward the Finisterre Eddy base layer, soft, warm, naturally breathable and antibacterial, it’s also reasonably priced and stylish so you’re happy to peel off the layers down to them in public.
