This is our Elan Speed Magic 2019 Ski Review from the SIGB Ski Test in Galtür, Austria. Described as the product of “Racing DNA with Lightskiing Tuning’, the Speed Magic really does live up to its name.
Precise, agile and incredibly energetic, this is a ski that wants to go all day. It’s equipped with Elan’s Arrow Technology to increase the power and energy of the skier, perfect for those who like to be that little bit more aggressive on the slopes. At the core of this technology is a cambered carbon plate that builds energy, acting as a booster to transfer power to the tip and tail of the ski to really generate this energy through the turns. Indeed, this allows easy control over agile, precise and athletic turns.
Indeed, this is a ski that loves to turn. In fact, it often feels like the ski is turning you as opposed to you working to turn it.
The Elan Speed Magic 2019 also utilises design elements such as an early rise rocker and a power shift system (a free flex plate-in-plate design) to ensure dampening within the ski, increasing performance and giving the smoothest possible ride.
As someone that doesn’t ski on race-type skis too often, I was impressed by how much fun I had on the Speed Magic. I thought it may prove slightly too powerful for me, but it is actually surprisingly forgiving and accessible for skiers that may not have experience in racing. It really is a ski for any advanced to expert skier who is looking for something quick, nimble and a lot of fun on the piste.
This is a ski that will best suit advanced to expert skiers who really want to rip up the pistes and show the boys how it’s done.
