This is InTheSnow’s Elan Ripstick 106 2019 Ski Review from the slopes of Galtür, Austria. One of the wider skis in the Ripstick range, the 106 is a really great freeride ski that will perform wherever on the mountain you to take it.
The 106mm waist means that this ski is very comfortable in powder, with a lovely float across soft snow that lets you truly make the most of those sought after powder days, whilst safe in the knowledge that it can also keep you secure both on and off piste.
This is a ski that really holds its own on any terrain, with a great combination of grip and floatation. Sure, if you’re a true freeride powder-hound, it’s big brother, the Ripstick 116 may be more up your street, but if you’re looking for something to take you across the whole mountain without hesitation, regardless of conditions, the 106 is your best bet.
Without as much carbon as the Ripstick 96 Black Edition, this ski is slightly more forgiving and accessible to the average skier. For someone who usually likes a ski that really turns nicely and gives you a great carve on piste, the Ripstick 106 2019 delivers.
On groomed runs it really rips hard, with great edge hold and an energetic nature that is sure to put a smile on your face within minutes and keep it there all day.
Like all the Ripstick range, the Ripstick 106 2019 has Elan’s Amphibio profile. This means that it has allocated left and right skis with a cambered profile on the inside edge and a rockered profile on the outer. This gives the ski enhanced stability, edge hold, and precision on the inside and easy turn initiation and smooth transitions on the outer edge.
