ADATA SD700 Portable Data Storage For Skiers

I have always needed a portable hard drive when I travel to the slopes both for work – to carry all the text and images I need to have access to – and for holidays, to store all the video I shoot.

But I’ve always had problems.  I buy the ‘tough’ and ‘robust’ drives from PC World but they always seem to fail me when I most need them.

So I was delighted to get the chance to test out a brand new, rugged external SSD hard drive from ADATA: the SD700

My first thought getting it out the box was how small and light it felt compared to the drives I usually buy.  It felt like if you dropped it it wouldn’t break something vital inside and the rubber casing around its edges, thickened on the four corners, added to my sense of security.  It was also about half the physical se of my previous drives, which is a good thing.

ADATA say it’s dust, water and shock proof so perfect for those in the outdoors, especially in winter sport season for those filming skiing/snowboarding footage.  I did run a drop test on it and can confirm that it survived unscathed, but have not yet submerged in underwater.

The company also say file transfer is speedy, and that I can confirm, instantaneous as far as my human brain can tell.

Technical info from the manufacturer for those who may understand it:

The SD700 durable external hard drive represents the first time 3D NAND SSD has achieved IP68 dust and water proof specifications in addition to military-grade shock proofing, all thanks to a tough protective enclosure and meticulous testing.

The SD700 uses USB 3.1 Gen 1 to connect with Windows, Mac OS, and Android devices at speed read up to 440MB/s and write up to 430MB/s. In addition to being widely compatible, the SD700 is also very light, weighing just 100g for easy mobility.

Prices: £159 / 512GB or £99 / 256GB
