Snowboarder Gabe Adams has claimed Team GB’s first medal of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Sarajevo.
Having qualified through to the big air final by finishing third in his heat, Adams fell on his first run in the final to sit in ninth position. However his next two runs were amongst the best in the final, seeing him move up the leaderboard to earn the bronze medal.
“I’m super excited to have won [the bronze medal] – it was such a good experience,” said Adams, pictured on the right above. “I managed to put down a pretty decent run that got me into third. I wasn’t expected to win like that – my mum and dad were so excited; my mum even cried a bit. It’s been wicked that they even came to watch – I can’t thank them enough.”
Switzerland’s Nick Puenter (184.25) completed a perfect week in Sarajevo by backing up his slopestyle victory on Tuesday with another win, just edging Lithuania’s Motiejus Morauskas (183.00) with Adams (169.25) leaping four places on his final run to get on the podium.
Lewis Moore also qualified through to his second final of the week, ultimately finishing in 11th.
