Fresh snowfall has been reported over the past few days in the Alps, Rockies, Pyrenees and other mountain areas.
Earlier in the week mountain bikers at Kicking Horse in BC, Canada had to contend with fresh snowfall at the top of the gondola and yesterday Loveland in the Rockies, one of the world’s highest ski areas located near the continental divide in Colorado reported fresh snow too. It’s typically one of the first non-glacier ski areas to open in the world each season and says it will start snowmaking in a fortnight on September 29th.
In the Alps there was overnight snowfall in Les 2 Alpes (above) a few days ago and Val Thorens posted pictures of snow there too. Forecasters are reporting there may be up to a foot (30cm) of snow in the next 24 hours on the already open glacier slopes of Zermatt in Switzerland as well as at the Pitztal Glacier, Austria’s highest ski area which has just re-opened and had ski racer Marcel Hirscher in training.
Down in the Pyrenees, the Spanish ski area of Formigal also posted images of snow on its mountain tops (below).
