There was fresh snow on each side of the Atlantic in the final days of April and on May 1st – giving a wintry end to the season at many of the dozen or so ski areas that stretched their seasons to May 1st.
Chamonix and Glacier 3000 near Gstaad both reported totals of 20cm over the 48 hours on higher slopes, the Molltal Glacier (open to mid-May), 10cm.
Some of the heaviest snowfall reported was in the Western US where still-open Snowbird in Utah (pictured above and video below) reported 20cm of snow and Mammoth in California announced a similar total.
About 60 ski areas will still be open this coming weekend although it will be the final weekend of the season for about two thirds of them.
