Resorts in France, Austria and Switzerland have reported up to 25cm of fresh snow in the past 24 hours.
In many cases it was a relief when the snow, which has fallen down to low levels in many areas, started after a weekend of wild weather which in many cases included strong winds, high temperatures and rain.
The weekend’s World Cup racing schedule in Austria and Switzerland was disrupted by the ever changing conditions with the ladies’ events in Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria eventually having to be cancelled although the men’s events in Adelboden went ahead, albeit with altered schedules.
In most cases snowfall so far has been quite light, with 3-5cm (1-2 inches) of new snow but some resorts including Solden in Austria have reported 10cm of fresh snow and another Austrian resort, Fieberbrunn, claimed 20cm (eight inches) have fallen there today.
