Fresh Snow Across Northern Italy For The Start of February

Patrick Thorne

02 Feb 17

There’s been some fresh snow in Italy this week and more is forecast over the coming week, with many areas expected to get 30-60cm over the weekend.

Resorts like Bormio (pictured this week top and bottom ) and Livigno have had up to 35cm of snow already this week and much more is expected.

The extra good news is that considerable snowfall is expected at last in the Dolomites, which, if it falls as forecast, will be great news as the area has hardly had any natural snowfall this season.  Nonetheless thousands of kilometres of groomed slopes have been opened thanks to snowmaking up to now.

Among the snow forecast the Milky Way region including Sauxe d’Oulx and Sestriere is expected to get around 40cm of snow by Sunday, then Courmayeur (above) and La Thuile as much as 60cm (two feet) in the same period.  Moving East around 40cm is expected at Bormio (below after snowfall on Wednesday this week), Livigno, Madesimo and Madonna di Campiglio then in to the Dolomites around a foot/30cm at San Martino.  Over on the border with Slovenia, further east still, up to two feet (60cm) of snow may fall over the weekend.
