There have been some big snowfalls in Switzerland in the first few days of February and much more is forecast for the next few days too.
By Thursday evening Davos and Klosters had had around 75cm (2.5 feet) of fresh snow, Flims, Andermatt and Laax 60cm (two feet) and there had been 45cm (18 inches) at Arosa, Samnaun and Verbier.

Verbier describes off piste conditions as ‘Powder’ and the fresh snow has come with a higher avalanche danger warning, up to 4 at some resorts, just below the highest level.
St Moritz, where the Alpine Skiing World Championships start this weekend, which has seen very little fresh snow this winter, has had 25cm so far. Most other Swiss resorts have had 15-20cm of snow so far.
The snow is good news for freshening up Swiss slopes which had good snowfalls in the first half of January after a dry December but not much since.
