The end of the 2017-18 ski season is nigh for most French resorts now.
Almost all have closed already but a few will make it to May 1st – the Chamonix Valley and Val d’Isere.
Then Tignes plans to stay open until next weekend, closing at the end of Sunday, May 6th, leaving Val Thorens (pictured top this week) to claim latest closing date in France’ on May 8th.
Then all will be closed until Summer skiing starts at Val d’isere, Tignes and les 2 Alpes in June.
Many more could be open if they wanted – the snow pack at many closed areas remains more than 3 metres (10 feet) thick up top. There’s a lot to thaw away this spring and summer.
The last week currently looks like being classic spring skiing conditions at those few French areas still open – hard packed and frozen first thing, good from mid morning to early afternoon, then getting sticky. And repeat.
