With ski equipment, a bit like with cars or mobile phones, it can get complicated when it comes to choosing what you want. Unless you’re a full-on ski-kit nerd, spending your nights scouring catalogues and reviews, it can be very hard to determine the difference between the various manufacturers, or “brands” as they’re now known.
And indeed some once famous manufacturers are now just “brands” of giant corporations, but not all. Fischer Sports, founded more than 90 years ago in Austria, is still headquartered in the country’s Ried im Innkreis (Austria). Ever since its foundation the company has been known for innovation and integrating the latest technologies.
Fischer’s ski boots are distinguished by their use of the patented, revolutionary VACU-PLAST material and technology, which makes it possible to adapt the shell of the ski boot completely to the anatomy of your foot. It’s a process that’s used successfully by Alpine Ski World Cup racers but is also available to any skier. Get your ski boot fit right and everything else – especially comfort and control – follows on.
A special Fischer High-Tech Polymer is used for the Fischer VACUUM boots. It was developed exclusively for the ski-boot sector and can be moulded to fit any individual foot when it is “thermoformable” at 80°C.
Fischer has developed the VACUUM FIT station especially for this purpose. You step inside the heated boot wearing a protective boot liner, a Cooling Pad and Compression Pads are put on and the stand position is fixed. Compressed air is used to perfectly shape the entire boot to bring it in line with the foot – retaining its shape once it cools down. It all takes just 20 minutes with the latest version of the VACUUM FIT station, TWO ZONE. This latest version allows pressure to be optimally regulated in the ankle and forefoot area separately, providing a previously unattainable and exact adaptation to the individual foot anatomy! VACUUM FIT is now available at 25 locations in the UK.
So you see, ski boots from Fischer Sports are indeed different.
