First Snow Ahead of Season in Colorado

The past few days has seen snowfall turn slopes white in the Colorado Rockies.

The famous ski state usually sees the first ski resorts opening in North America each autumn, thanks to its snow-sure high-altitude terrain.

A number of Colorado ski resorts are hoping to start their 24-25 seasons next month if conditions are good.  Ski areas like Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain (pictured) and Loveland are primed to open in October if they can, or early November at the latest.

Besides the early snowfall temperatures on Colorado’s highest slopes have been dipping below freezing at night for the past few weeks bringing the period when pre-season snowmaking can begin rapidly closer.

Arapahoe Basin have begun rolling out and testing equipment whilst Loveland has a “countdown to snowmaking starting” clock on their website. Winter Park meanwhile has seen a multi-million dollar investment in its snowmaking system ahead of the season.
