The long-time specialists in the classic French ski resort of Megève, Stanford Skiing, are excited about big improvements coming to the resort – which has one of the world’s biggest ski areas on its doorstep but isn’t covered by many British tour operators – this winter.
“The lift companies in Megève and Saint Gervais have announced the long overdue revamp of the Chamois gondola from the centre of Megève and the replacement of the rickety old chairlift on the Epaule of Mont Joly with a fast six-man chair,” said Elizabeth Cahir, adding: “It’ll be much more comfortable way of reaching what we like to call, tongue-in-cheek, ‘The Ridge of Death!’ and is the first part of an €80 million (around £70.9 million) investment promised by the lift operator.”
Megève has a charming medieval pedestrianised centre with bars, boutiques, a jazz club and casino. There are no mass-market operators, because the hotels are small and individual and simply can’t accommodate hordes of guests.
Stanford offers apartment, chalet and hotel holidays with catered chalet prices from £480 per week or £320 for a weekend break, excluding flights, and also offers a transfer service from Geneva, 75 minutes away.
