The challenges of brewing a good cup of tea at altitude have led UK tour operator Mountain Heaven, which offers catered and self-catered chalets in seven resorts in the French and Swiss Alps, to eschew local produce and export over 20,000 Yorkshire Teabags to their chalets in France.
“Increased altitude reduces the boiling point of water creating problems for tea lovers, especially those who prefer it a little stronger. As many visitors to France have found, the ubiquitous Lipton’s Yellow Label tea struggles at sea level and so has no chance in the mountains,” said Co-Director of Mountain Heaven, Vicki Williams, “The more robust taste and colour of Yorkshire Tea helps produce a more satisfying cup of tea. “
Mountain Heaven’s move coincided with a recent survey from the consumer association, Which..? that found Yorkshire Tea to be one of the most popular branded teas in the UK (and voted number 1 in the North of England).
“Yorkshire Tea is my favourite at home and I found myself really missing it when I was in the Alps,” added Vicki, “I started taking some out with me and thought that if I was missing a good cup of tea, many of our clients would be too. We go out of our way to ensure our guests have a home from home experience and I hope this will contribute to that.”
