The world’s best known ski jumper, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards, has announced he’ll be touring the UK in May and June telling his own version of his ‘underdog’ story, recently ‘fictionalised’ for a Hollywood film.
Britain’s first Olympic Ski jumper, Eddie became an overnight sensation in 1988 at the Calgary Winter Olympics. Finishing last he lost out on medals by a long way but inspired global respect for his positive attitude, embodying what many see as the true spirit of the Olympics.
Now, following the hit 2016 movie starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman and the subsequent renewed interest in his life, Eddie will tour 17 UK theatres in TRY HARD, his debut ‘audience with…’ style theatre show
In TRY HARD, Eddie talks through his incredible life-journey; from self-learning ski-jumping and being shunned by the sporting establishment, to the extensive surgery to rebuild his face and body following years of wince-inducing crashes on the snow, as he set out to break world-records in stunt jumping (10 cars & six buses) and speed-skiing (but ‘only’ reached 106.8mph).
“From bankruptcy through trustees’ mismanagement, to gaining a Law degree, and even how he became a most unlikely pop-star in Finland, above all, what will shine through is the steely resilience of a fearless man determined to overcome huge sporting and life hurdles in an evening of anecdotes from one of Britain’s most heroic sporting underdogs,” a statement from the tour’s organisers declares.
