The Czech skier who stunned the world by winning gold in a ski as well as a snowboard competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics earlier this year in South Korea has announced is competing in both ski and snowboarding events this season.
23-year-old Ester Ledecká won super-G gold in skiing and a snowboard parallel giant slalom gold at the PyeongChang Games last February, a unique achievement.
Ledecká has been competing in the Women’s Skiing World Cup circuit already this winter but is also squeezing in Parallel Giant Slalom World Cup Snowboarding events, where she is the three-time defending World Cup champion, leading to a very full calendar and lots of travel.
She told a press conference that it was “complicated” and that the FIS schedules for the two disciplines had not been designed for someone wishing to compete in both. However Ledecká says she will continue to compete in both disciplines, despite the schedule, so long as she’s having fun.
