Crans-Montana is the latest Swiss ski centre to extend its season into May, issuing an online statement,
“Enjoy skiing on the summits until 14 May. This spring, as long as the snow conditions allow, it will be possible to ski at 3,000 metres, and you can also make the most of the Snowpark, which has relocated to Plaine Morte, and all at reduced prices!”
The move follows recent snowfall at high altitudes across the Alps, with some centres seeing over a metre of snowfall at 3,000m through the last week.
Other Swiss areas open into May include Adelboden, Andermatt (Gemsstock freeride area), the Diavolezza glacier near St Moritz, Engelberg, and Glacier 3000 near Gstaad and Les Diablerets.
Zermatt is hoping to return to year round operation of its glacier for snowsports after being forced to close for most of August and September last year, for the first time ever, by warm weather at high altitude melting the snow cover on the glacier.
