Breckenridge, Copper and Keystone resorts will join the Colorado ski areas open already, Arapahoe Basin and Loveland – to take the famous ski state’s tally of open ski areas to five this weekend.
There has been some natural snowfall on the slopes, with all five ski areas amongst the world’s 30 highest, but opening is reliant on snowmaking as there has also been periods of warm weather.

Things are looking better than a year ago however when most Colorado ski areas had to delay their planned opening by a week or two as it was too warm even for snowmaking systems to operate at their high altitude – this year all areas are opening on schedule.
Breckenridge opens today, Friday, 10th November. A resort spokesman said,
“DJDC will get the party started at 8:00am along with complimentary cinnamon buns from Ski Hill Grill. Opening Ceremony will be at 8:45 and the Colorado Chair will begin spinning at 9am with access to Springmeier.”
