A dramatic week in the Chamonix Valley with heavy snowfall and widespread closure of ski areas and access roads due to the resulting logistical problems and avalanche danger.
Today sees another 30cm of snowfall and an avalanche at the village of les Houches which has damaged several chalets but doesn’t appear to have resulted in any injuries.
The published base depth is 80-220cm and it seems that once conditions improve – hopefully in the next 48 hours, the skiing should be excellent with all terrain able to open.
For now though the avalanche danger is at maximum.
It’s a library picture published top as the resort have not issued any images for the past week and are keen to encourage indoor/resort-based activities they offer.
