Chamonix had hoped to open its first terrain for the season this weekend, but has decided conditions aren’t yet right.
“Despite the 10 000 m3 of snow produced in the last few days, we will not be able to envisage a partial opening of the great-Montets area this weekend,” a resort statement aid, continuing, “The Grands Montets will therefore not be opening next weekend. A little more patience required before you can hit the slopes.”
Current snow depths are around 30cm but about 50cm of snow is forecast for the weekend.
