Chamonix has announced it will open one of its ski areas at weekends during November if snow conditions are good enough.
So far the resort reports it has had 15cm of fresh snowfall recently and has invested in 30 new snowmaking machines to help build a base when temperatures are low enough.
The famous French resort says its Grand Montets sector will be partially open weekends through November subject to snow cover, with les Houches joining it on the first weekend of December, and both areas opening daily from Friday, 8th December.
The announcement from Chamonix comes as Kitzbuhel, which has already opened some terrain using snow stockpiled from last season, also opens a run in its famous Hahnenkamm area using the same technique.
All of the ski areas in the Chamonix Valley will aim to be at least partially open from 9th December and fully open a week later, except for Les Houches which doesn’t aim to be fully open until December 23rd.
According to SnowForecast.com the temperatures at Chamonix are expected to drop over the week ahead with the freezing level dipping to below 2500m over the weekend and more fresh snow forecast.
