Lake Louise has opened, kicking off Canada’s 24-25 season.

The country is expecting a bumper winter with a La Nina forecast expected to generate lower than average temperatures and increased precipitation this winter for western provinces Alberta and BC.

Lake Louise opened three runs, Bald Eagle, Wiwaxy and portions of Easy Street initially as well as some terrain park features and nursery slopes for first timers.

“Guests arrived bright and early, with the Glacier Express starting up at 9:00 am to transport skiers and snowboarders to the upper mountain. Early season visitors enjoyed a variety of beginner and intermediate runs, perfect for getting back into the rhythm of skiing. The stunning views surrounding the valley added to the excitement, offering a picturesque backdrop as guests enjoyed their first turns of the season,” a spokesperson for Lake Louise commented.

At least four more Canadian ski areas are expected to open to start their seasons this weekend. They include fellow Banff areas Sunshine and Norquay as well as Nakiska and Jasper’s ski area, Marmot Basin.
