After the mostly wintery April in much of North America in some cases setting all-time records for spring snow in areas like the Midwest it has settled down a little this week and we are down to the last dozen or so ski areas open in to May.

Even with warm spring sunshine most have good deep bases and are often at an altitude where it freezes overnight so its classic spring conditions – hard and icy first thing, good skiing/boarding from about 10am but getting slushy and sticky soon after 1pm.

So where’s still open?

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is extending their season until the 29th of April.

Lake Louise, Loveland, Marmot Basin, Mont Sutton, Sugarbush and Winter Park to at least May 6th so far.

Sunshine and Whistler in California will go another fortnight.

Still doing that winter thing in the sky.
