Momentum Camps and the Sarah Burke Foundation that 14-year-old Kirsty Muir is the recipient of the 2018 ‘Spirit of Sarah’ Scholarship. Kirsty is the first European skier to win the award, which rounds off an exceptional 2018 season for the youngster.
The ‘Spirit of Sarah’ Scholarship is a prize created in honour of freestyle skier Sarah Burke, who died in a tragic ski accident in 2012. Sarah was a camper at Momentum for 4 years and a coach for 11 years and encouraging enouraging young girls to follow their dreams was a cause very close to her heart. She inspired man young girls and women not only through her incredible skiing talent, but her modesty, kindness and positive approach to life.
As a result of winning the Scholarship, Kirsty will now have the opportunity to attend Momentum’s summer freestyle ski camp at Blackcomb Glacier in Whistler, B.C.
Kirsty has had a fantastic 2018 season which was topped off with an incredible three British titles at the BRITS in April 2018 (Ski Big Air, Ski Halfpipe and Ski Slopestyle). However, it was as much her positive and uplifting attitude as her progressive skiing skills that impressed the ‘Spirit of Sarah’ Scholarship judges.

Kirsty is a British talent that is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Having done most of her skiing on dry slopes, she was drawn to freestyle at the age of six and now hopes to one day compete in the Winter X-Games, the Dew Tour and the Winter Olympics.
Camp Director John Smart says, “We greatly look forward to meeting Kirsty and helping her progress towards her skiing dreams. Sarah was a long time camper and coach with Momentum and it’s important for us to keep her memory alive with this ongoing scholarship. She was a great advocate of women in sport and a true role model to young girls.”
Kirsty lists Sarah Burke, James ‘Woodsy’ Woods, Kelly Sildaru and Sarah Hoefflin as the skiers that most inspire her and as it happens, both Woodsy and Kelly Sildaru at Momentum Camps this summer.
We caught up with Kirsty at the BRITS as we met some of the stars of the future (1:10):
