Billy Morgan is a snowboarder who competes in the Slopestyle and Big Air events and will be hoping to achieve success in these at PyeongChang 2018.
Growing up in Southampton, Billy Morgan did not start out his career on a board, but was focused on athletic gymnastics. He began snowboarding on his local dry slope a the age of 14 and had not boarded on snow until he was 18! However, his gymnastic background stood him in very good stead when it came to the athletic side of
His first competition victory was the British Big Air Championship in 2009. In 2013, he gained his first World Cup podium, placing third in an FIS Snowboard World Cup event in Sierra Nevada, Spain. This led to his finishing the 2012/13 season ranked second in the world rankings for snowboard slopestyle.
Competing in the Sochi 2014 Winter Games, Morgan placed 10th in the Slopestyle competition and will be hoping to build on this result next year. The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics are an especially exciting prospect for Morgan thanks to the inclusion of the Big Air event, which is where Morgan really shines.
The first boarder to ever land an 1800 Triple Cork, Morgan is also one of the few in the sport that can succesfully successfully land a Triple Rodeo. In February 2016, he took the bronze medal in the Big Air event at the X Games in Oslo and he is now focusing on Olympic preparation. Let’s hope he can bring home a success for Team GB
