This weekend marks the opening of World Cup competitions for both the British Nordic Team in Ruka, Finland and the British Telemark Team in Hintertux, Austria. The GB Park and Pipe snowboarders are in World Cup action at the Big Air Olympic test event in Alpensia, Korea whilst Alex Tilley is in Alpine World Cup action in Killington, USA.
The British Nordic Team will be hoping to capitalise on a good summer and autumn of training and competitions to make their mark on the World Cup circuit. Competing in Ruka for Great Britain will be Andrew Musgrave, Andrew Young, Callum Smith and Annika Taylor. Saturday will see the Men’s and Women’s Classic Sprint, and the Men’s Classic 15km and Women’s Classic 10km, will take place on Sunday.
The GB Park and Pipe snowboarders have made a long journey to South Korea to test out the Big Air. At 49m it is the largest Big Air ramp in the world and will be used for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Big Air. After her fourth place in the Milan Big Air two weeks ago, Aimee Fuller will be looking to go one better and secure a podium in Alpensia. She is joined by in-form Katie Ormerod who finished second in last week’s Pleasure Jam. For the men, Billy Morgan will be joined by teammates Rowan Coultas and Matt McCormick. Men’s Qualification will be tomorrow, with Finals Saturday, whilst both the Ladies’ Qualifiers and Finals take place on Saturday.
Delancey British Alpine Team athlete Alex Tilley is in the USA to compete in this weekend’s Alpine World Cup in Killington. After a good opening GS World Cup in Soelden, Tilley had a DNF in Levi last weekend. She will be looking for solid results in both the GS on Saturday and Slalom on Sunday.
Six athletes will be in action for the British Telemark team in the Hintertux World Cup this weekend. Jasmin Taylor will be looking to continue her impressive performances from last season and take to the podium on this season’s World Cup circuit. She is joined in the female races by Tara Parks. For the men, competing for Great Britain will be Louis Hatchwell, Jasper Taylor, Fred Thomas and Alec Dixon. Friday, Saturday and Sunday sees two women’s and two men’s Sprint races followed by a Parallel Sprint for both.
The GB Park and Pipe skiers will be competing in the Europa Cup in Stubai this weekend. Tackling the slopestyle course on Saturday will be Monty Wright, Mike Rowlands, Joe Hides, Chris McCormick and Harris Booth.
