Big Sky Resort in Montana, one of the largest ski areas in North America, is adding two new chairlifts for the coming ski season.
The other new lift is the replacement Challenger chair, also Doppelmayr-built, a conveyor-load, triple fixed-grip chairlift which will take nine minutes to make its ascent. That will be three minutes faster than the previous Challenger lift, which was built in 1988.
The as yet unnamed new Bowl Lift is a Doppelmayr six-seat high-speed detachable chairlift with heated seats, head rests and pull-down bubble of the most technologically advanced design in the USA.
The lift will replace the Lone Peak Triple, which was one of the original lifts when Big Sky Resort first opened in 1973. The new lift will be twice as fast as the old, taking just three minutes to make its ascent.
“We’re very excited about the installation of two brand-new Doppelmayr chairlifts. We think these two lifts will improve the skier experience exponentially. They’re two more reasons that Big Sky Resort is the Biggest Skiing in America,” said Big Sky’s Chelsi Moy.
The lifts are the first new lifts for a decade at the US resort, with the Dakota Triple Chair installed in 2006 the last new lift.
