The third great “Blizzard of Oz” is currently dumping huge amounts of fresh snow on Australian ski slopes.
Despite – or perhaps because of – what has reportedly been the warmest winter in Australian history (possibly generating more precipitation to fuel snow storms at higher elevations?), snow conditions at the country’s leading resorts are currently reported to be “the best in 17 years” by staff at the country’s largest centre, Perisher (below).
Aussie resorts reported up to 1.3m (over four feet) of fresh snow in the first 72 hours of the snowstorm, which is expected to continue, albeit with now lighter snowfall, until Sunday.
Bases at the country’s main centres are nearing 2 metres, a very good figure in Australia, and almost all lifts are operating and runs open.
It's been powdermonium here as the snow keeps on keeping on, and the best news is we get to do it for one extra week! The season's been extended until Sunday 8 October so there's plenty of time for plenty more turns!

It’s actually the final month of the ski season for most Australian resorts although some now say they plan to stay open in to October because of the incredible conditions. Mt Buller and Perisher have extended their seasons.
