Oakley® has recently released the latest chapter of its “Be Who You Are”campaign, featuring Team China freestyle skier Eileen Gu.
Oakley, who is the official sponsor of Team China for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, worked with Gu and other athletes from its roster to build this season’s Snow collection and tell their personal journeys like never before.
In the video, Gu, who is hoping to qualify for her first Olympics Games, discusses how she uses the sport as a creative outlet, expressing her individuality and passion for freestyle skiing. Off the slopes, she continues to pursue other interests, including modeling, and uses her platform to stand up for what she believes in.
Gu has followed the wisdom passed down to her from her mother, always competing to win but not letting her athletic career define her as a person. She is unapologetic for who she is and what she does, redefining the role of a person-of-color-freeskier as well that of a female athlete as she continues to rise the ranks of the sport and influence the surrounding culture.
Oakley’s Snow collection was designed in collaboration with world-class athletes on a mission to celebrate each of their individual takes on sport and to elevate cold-weather style across a wide range of demanding conditions. Gu and the other athletes featured in the campaign all follow the brand’s mantra for the 2021 snow collection, “Draw Your Line,” uniquely representing their respective sport and together, forming a team that embodies the true spirit of the brand: Be Who You Are.
